Sytze van der Laan, Nanook Entertainment

For the feature films 'Tonio', 'My Father's Garden',  'The Reisistance Banker' and 'Doe Maar' NL Film works in co-production with Sytze van der Laan, producer of Nanook Entertainment.

Van der Laan started out as a film critic and screenwriter. Following a Master's degree in screenwriting and producing with Frank Daniel and David Howard at the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, he started his career in Germany as a film and television producer with Gemini Film. His film 'My Friend Joe' won the children's film festival at the Berlinale in 1996. From 1996 to 2002, Van der Laan was director of Filmpool in Cologne. During this period, Van der Laan won awards including the Prix Italia for Best Drama ('Schande', 2000).

In 2002, Van der Laan became production director for Studio Hamburg, Germany's biggest film and television studios. Under his leadership, Studio Hamburg Produktion won an Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series ('Berlin, Berlin!', 2004), produced the cinema film series 'The Three Ivenstigators' and the film version of Patricia Highsmith's 'The Cry of the Owl' (BBC Films).

Van der Laan is a member of the Dutch Academy For Film (DAFF), the Deutsche Filmakademie, the European Film Academy and the Eruopean Producers Club.
