Monic Hendrickx wins 2013 Golden Calf for Best Actress

Monic Hendrickx has been awarded the Golden Calf for ‘best actress in a television drama’ for her role in PENOZA II. 2013’s Golden Calves – the major awards for the Dutch film industry – were presented at the Dutch Film Gala last Friday. Monic Hendrickx picked up the fourth Golden Calf of her career, receiving this prestigious award in the ‘best actress in a television drama’ category for her role in PENOZA II. Monic plays the lead role of ‘mafia mother’ Carmen van Walraven in this tense, ten-part drama series set in the Dutch criminal underworld and broadcast by the KRO.

Monic Hendrickx: “I feel greatly honoured to be given this award. Working on this series was a real pleasure. Now the third season is on TV, I am really noticing how much people are taking notice. I even get people talking to me about it in the supermarket. To then have my work recognised with such a fantastic award really is a great honour.”

Monic’s co-nominees in this category were Noortje Herlaar, for her role in the nostalgic drama Mother, I Want to Join the Cabaret and Mariana Aparicio Torres for the Warriors episode of crime series Van God Los. PENOZA was broadcast by the KRO and was produced by NL Film. The third series can be seen on TV every week from Sunday 29 September (8.25 p.m., Nederland 3).
