"Jan Siebelink based his novel In my Father's Garden on his own upbringing in a strict Protestant family."

Gaite Jansen (HOE DUUR WAS DE SUIKER), Bert Luppes (BLOED, ZWEET EN TRANEN, OVERSPEL) and Nils Verkooijen (ACHTSTE-GROEPERS HUILEN NIET) have been added to the cast of the feature film In my Father's Garden, directed by Ben Sombogaart (THE STORM, BRIDE FLIGHT, TWIN SISTERS). The film is based on the bestseller of the same title by Jan Siebelink and is being produced by Alain de Levita (NL Film) and Sytze van der Laan (Nanook Entertainment). Barry Atsma, Noortje Herlaar, Marcel Hensema and Willem Voogd have already been announced as appearing in the film. The screenplay was written by Hugo Heinen (NOVA ZEMBLA).

The film – shooting on which is now in full swing – tells the story of a loving husband and father (Barry Atsma), who falls into the hands of an extreme, orthodox Protestant sect. He sacrifices everyone and everything to this faith, including his business and the respect of his younger son. But he never loses the love of his wife (Noortje Herlaar). Filming is scheduled to continue into July.

Jan Siebelink based his novel In my Father's Garden (published by de Bezige Bij) on his own upbringing in a strict Protestant family. More than 600,000 copies of the novel were sold, and in 2005 it won the prestigious literary award the AKO Literatuurprijs. The book has been translated and published in Germany, Denmark and Italy.

The film is being produced by Alain de Levita of NL Film in co-production with Sytze van der Laan of Nanook Entertainment, Zilvermeer Productions from Belgium and broadcaster KRO-NCRV, and is being made with support from the Netherlands Film Fund, Production Incentive, CoBO, Screen Flanders and the Belgian Tax Shelter.

Distributor September Film will release In my Father's Garden in cinemas in early 2016.
